Sprixx was established in 2002 by Santa Barbara business man Dr. Rodney Ogrin after learning how to prevent the cross contamination of pathogens via healthcare provider hands from his friend Dr. James Villaveces, MD of Ventura, California. Sprixx owns the exclusive patent rights to body-worn, single-hand operated alcohol dispensers.
Sprixx is based on Dr. Pittet’s Effectiveness of a hospital-wide programme to improve compliance with hand hygiene. Compliance improved progressively from 48% in 1994, to 66% in 1997. During the same period overall nosocomial infection decreased from 16.9% in 1994 to 9.9% in 1998. Consumption of alcohol-based hand-rub solution increased from 3.5 to 15.4 L per 1000 patient-days between 1993 and 1998.
The promotion of bedside (clip-on personal bottles), antiseptic hand-rubs largely contributed to the increase in compliance.
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), New Hampshire’s only academic medical center affirmed Pittet et al using our Sprixx Hand Hygiene System.
