Why Sprixx

The American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC) is calling on Infection Control Committees to find a practical and clinically effective means to improve hand hygiene compliance.  Hand rubbing with alcohol formulated products is preferred in most situations over hand washing with soap and water.  Sprixx Hand Hygiene System (SHHS) answers this call.

SHHS is the catalyst for behavior modification (cognitive changes) resulting in apt attention and prevention in matters of eliminating the propensity for HCWs to transmit pathogens from one patient to another, whatever the vector.

SHHS + YOUR institutions commitment + Partnership for Patients are a synergistic triad to establishing personal accountability in matters of hand hygiene compliance.  Also, think in terms of Personal & Patient Protection Equipment (P&PPE) that safeguards the health-care provider, his/her patient and your organization.

SHHS is a clinically proven enhanced standard for anesthesia providers in the perioperative units and operating rooms, as well as for all health-care providers delivering direct patient care in the ICU’s including peripatetic workers to ensure reducing the rates of HAIs in acute care hospitals.   In June of 2011 AJIC reflects that infection transmissions occur repeatedly given the lack of quality control at the bedside.  SHHS reduces or eliminates multiple drug-resistant organism (MDRO) infections with its intense multi-tiered, evidence-based, point-of-care intervention package that can easily be intergraded into your existing infection control plan.

At the core of our system is the body-attached dispenser that allows instant single hand dispensing of alcohol gels within the patient zone enabling meeting Your Five Moments for Hand Hygiene.  Our built-in personal hand hygiene event counter provides feedback in real-time.  Our audio reminder raises hand hygiene opportunity awareness.  Our alcohol gel provides excellent instant kill with an 62% alcohol concentration including Jojoba oil that replaces moisture for maximum hand re-hydration.

The intimacy provided by our ergonomic single hand operated dispensers support mind-body increased awareness of hand hygiene opportunities delivering maximum efficiency in matters of compliance, as the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) call for maximum accessibility (body-attached), ease of use and compliance feedback.

Peripatetic workers play a large role in hand transmissions within the immediate patient environment, so educating all providers working in critical care areas on the focus of Your Five Moments for Hand Hygiene is imperative.  The instant availability and single hand dispensing mute the tendency to dismiss the constant need to disinfect one’s hands after contact with any surface or object (fomite) in the immediate patient environment.

With SHHS, the hard work of your Top 5 Champions will serve as the backbone for the units to engage advanced clinical hand hygiene effectively.   Impeccable benchmarks are accurately established for clinically relevant patient outcomes.  Daily hand hygiene compliance data is aggregated into graphs so that each worker can compare their own compliance to their fellow workers.  There is no bias with our hand hygiene event counter pure objectivity in compliance data for feedback purposes and sustainability.

Sprixx is based on the findings of the Director of the Infection Control Program at the University of Geneva Hospitals Dr. Pittet’s: Effectiveness of a hospital-wide program to improve compliance with hand hygiene.  Compliance improved progressively from 48% in 1994, to 66% in 1997.  During the same period overall nosocomial infection decreased from 16.9% in 1994 to 9.9% in 1998.  Consumption of alcohol-based hand-rub solution increased from 3.5 to 15.4 L per 1000 patient-days between 1993 and 1998.  The promotion of bedside (clip-on personal bottles), antiseptic hand-rubs largely contributed to the increase in compliance.

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), New Hampshire’s only academic medical center affirmed Pittet et al using our Sprixx Hand Hygiene System.
